To do this, I always start by learning about your pet. What are their quirks? Do they have a favourite toy, or a habit that never fails to make you smile? These details are the foundation of every portrait I create.
I pay particular attention to their eyes, as they hold so much of a pet’s spirit and character. Through careful layering of colours, I bring depth and life to their expressions, ensuring that every glance feels familiar. Whether it’s the mischievous glint of a cat eyeing their next adventure or the soulful gaze of a loyal dog, I strive to make their unique personality shine through.
Adding texture and detail is another way I bring pets to life on paper. The softness of a fluffy coat or the glossy sheen of feathers is achieved by blending and building layers. Occasionally, my hand’s tremor adds a spontaneous line, which I embrace as part of the individuality of each piece.
